Mount Vitosha overlooks Sofia from the South, providing a useful reference point - especially as the main shopping street is both named after it, and orientated towards it. Weather in July is generally hot, but cools off in the late evening due to the breeze from the mountain. The centre of town has a cafe culture with many places to eat and drink. Getting around in Sofia is easy, with distances generally walkable. Taxis are cheap, and trams are frequent. For a break from the city you can always go for a walk on Mount Vitosha. Programata provides listings for events, as well as restaurants, bars, and clubs. Just in case it's of interest, Lenny Kravitz has a concert at the Academik Stadium in Sofia on Sunday 27th July 2008 (the day after the wedding). As a taster, we would recommend visiting heritage sites such as the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, and the Boyana Church as part of a sight-seeing tour, as well as taking-in attractions such as the Red House arts venue and the IMAX cinema. |
